The burn-in knife is the professional standard for filling deep gouges and chips. Proper heat control and leveling technique produce a repair that is both structural and invisible.

What You'll Need
  • Burn-In Knife
  • Burn-In Sticks
  • Leveling solution
  • Heat source
  • Fine abrasive
Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat the knife to the proper working temperature.
  2. Select the correct burn-in stick color for the repair.
  3. Apply melted filler from the knife into the repair void.
  4. Overfill the area slightly to allow for leveling.
  5. Level the fill flush with the knife edge.
  6. Color match the surface as needed.
  7. Finish and seal the repair.
Pro Tips
  • Too hot scorches the filler; too cool drags it — dial in the temperature on scrap first.
  • Keep the blade clean between passes for a smooth level.
  • Always overfill slightly; it is easier to remove than to add.
